How To Handle Package Deliveries At Multifamily Properties During Covid-19

package delivery

Over the last 12 months, package deliveries are on the rise at multifamily properties worldwide, due to Covid-19, which has led more people to shop online than ever before.

With an increase in package deliveries at multifamily properties, many get lost or stolen because a package that’s left in front of a tenant’s door can make an easy target for criminals.

Since services like Amazon Prime are becoming something that most people rely on for the delivery of everyday items, landlords should be open to finding the best solution for keeping their tenants’ packages safe and secure.

Thankfully, there are several options that every landlord should consider to streamline the delivery process at their multifamily properties.

Tip #1 – Buy A Storage Locker For Your Property

If your multifamily property has an onsite office, the first solution that you can use to streamline package deliveries is to invest in a locker system and instruct delivery companies to drop those deliveries in the locker, instead of in front of a tenant’s door.

After dropping the delivery into the onsite locker, the tenant can be left with a key in the mailbox where they could pick up the package later.

Tip #2 – Invest In An Amazon Hub

Besides lockers, another solution to consider is Amazon Hub, an automated and secure system that keeps packages safe at multifamily properties and so that tenants can pick up their Amazon deliveries 24-7.

Amazon hub is one of the most efficient option available because once the package is delivered, a tenant will receive a code that’s sent to their phone that they can use to open the locker and retrieve their package later.

Tip #3 – Have Packages Delivered To Your Onsite Office

Let’s say that your multifamily property has an onsite office, another solution to consider is instructing UPS, USPS, Amazon, and other companies to deliver packages to your office during normal business hours.

This solution won’t work for most landlords, but if your property does have an onsite office it’s a practical way to ensure that your tenants’ packages are safe and secure until they return home.

Tip #3 – Advise Your Tenants To Invest In a P.O. Box With UPS, USPS or FedEx

Last of all, another way to eliminate theft of packages at your multifamily property is to advise your tenants to invest in a P.O. box with your local USPS, FedEx or UPS.

Depending on the location, some companies charge under $150 annually for P.O. rentals so it’s an affordable way to ensure that packages are delivered safely.
